Valentine’s Day Fun

Looking for a great Valentine’s Day read? This is it. But remember, not all Valentine’s Day stories are hearts and flowers!

First of all, I need to say that getting out of one’s comfort zone can sometimes be wonderful. Scary, but wonderful. When I post about writing, it’s usually kid lit, poetry, or teaching writing. But this time I want to tell you about a book for grown ups.

I’m lucky to be part of the fabulous Space City Scribes, and I’m excited to have two stories in their Valentine’s Day anthology. After a day of counting words and hunting for similes that six year olds can understand, writing for adults can be kind of liberating.

Let’s talk about first dates. More specifically, BAD first dates. I think most of us have had a few of those. But not all bad dates are the same.  There’s the date that starts out great, but goes downhill as fast as a bobsled to Hell. That cutie at the door turns into a devil of a date. Then of course, there’s the one that’s doomed from the start with the only saving grace being the passage of time and the promise of a stiff drink.  But don’t forget the date that begins more painful than a root canal and happily evolves into something much more pleasurable.

Going on terrible first dates may not be your idea of a fabulous time, but reading about them can be fun.  So sit back, grab a glass of wine, and be happy you’re not the main character in these “What else could go wrong?” dating stories. But if you think you know what will happen, stick around, because just like life, there are twists and turns, and you never know where the road will take you.

I hope you enjoy reading the stories in First, Last, Forever as much as we enjoyed writing them!

I’d love to hear about your first date disasters, so comment away!

Congratulations, Ellen! I don’t think I’ve had any disastrous first dates, actually, so I’ll have to check this volume out. 🙂

Ha ha, Teresa. I’ve been married close to 45 years, so I haven’t had many bad first dates either. But that’s what made it so much fun to write! Thanks for reading the post!

Wow! 45 years?! So you got married when you were 4 years old? 😉 I’ve only been married 26 but I never dated much.

I’ve had a few bad ‘firsts,’ Ellen. But like you, those days are behind me now. 🙂
